I Am the Bread of Life: Finding Nourishment in Christ (John 6:35-40)

Introduction:Begin by reflecting on the importance of bread in life—how bread is a basic necessity that sustains us physically.
Transition into Jesus' statement in John 6, where He declares Himself to be the "Bread of Life," something much more essential than physical bread.
I. The Context of Jesus’ Statement (John 6:25-34)Key Point: Jesus makes the statement about being the Bread of Life after feeding the 5,000, and the crowd is still seeking more physical food.
Reflect on the crowd's misunderstanding—they want physical bread, but Jesus points to the deeper need for spiritual nourishment.

Discuss how we often miss the deeper spiritual significance of what Jesus offers because we focus on immediate, physical needs.
II. The Bread of Life: Jesus’ Offering (John 6:35-40)Key Point: Jesus declares that He is the Bread of Life—He is the true sustenance that satisfies our souls.
Discuss the significance of bread as a metaphor for Jesus: just as bread sustains physical life, Jesus sustains eternal life.
Reflect on Jesus’ words: “Whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”
III. The Invitation to Come and Believe (John 6:37-40)Key Point: The invitation is clear: come to Jesus and believe in Him. This is the way to eternal life.
Emphasize that Jesus doesn’t just offer food; He offers Himself. The promise is that those who come to Him will never be rejected and will be raised up on the last day.
IV. The Guarantee of Eternal Life (John 6:39-40)Key Point: Jesus assures us that everyone who believes in Him will be kept by the Father and will be raised up on the last day.
Discuss the hope of eternal life, grounded in Jesus’ promise and His sacrifice. The Bread of Life is not only for the present, but also for eternity.
Application:Are we truly nourishing our souls on the Bread of Life, or are we filling ourselves with temporary satisfactions that don’t last?
Jesus calls us to come to Him and believe. In a world that promises much but delivers little, He offers the only true and lasting fulfillment.
Challenge the congregation to seek nourishment in Christ daily. How can we feast on the Bread of Life in our daily walk?
